The "New" Ten Commandments Movie

Did anyone watch this movie this past week? We Tivoed it and "tried" to watch it this evening. Now, I know there is no way you can mess with the original, but we gave it a try anyway. As it started we noticed that the producers took certain liberties and changed the story. Several things that happened are not the way they happened and I think the last straw for us was the Burning Bush. God told Moses in the movie "I am who I am." Ummmmm, I'm sorry, this is a complete fabrication and not correct. By changing one word you change the entire meaning. The Bible says that God told Moses "I am that I am". Very different. When it got to the parting of the Red Sea it was made to look like a scientific event happened which caused the sea to part, not God's hand. Another liberty that Hollywood has taken to re-write History and change the Bible.

It is so disheartening that people are allowed to take the sacred texts of the Bible and re-shape them into their own molds. If a Hollywood producer made a movie and changed the sacred texts of Muslims, there would be hell to pay. But not Christians. We put up with this time and time again. It makes me sad. Especially on this Holy weekend. Jesus became flesh and blood so that we could all have eternal life and people constantly mock the truth.

Well I am sorry. I cannot just sit idly by and compromise my beliefs so that I'm politically correct and will fit in. If I cannot stand up for what is right I cannot call myself a Christian. We must start taking a stand against this kind of thing. We've allowed prayer to be taken out of our schools and had it replaced with condoms and safe sex. We've allowed God to be taken out of our courtrooms and replaced it with "A woman's right to choose" by killing innocent unborn children.

My heart is saddened tonite. I pray that I am not the only one disgusted by what has become of this world. Tomorrow morning represents the day that Jesus rose from the grave. He saved me and you and I hope that we all thank Him for His sacrifice and honor it more througout the year than just this one day. Lord knows I need to do this myself.

May you all have a blessed Easter. In the midst of Easter Bunnies, Egg Hunts and Baskets, please take the time to thank our Savior, Jesus Christ, for what He did.

A Proverbs Woman

One of the things many of us strive to be is a "Proverbs Woman." I still have a long way to go, but am striving every day. It's not easy sometimes and it's certainly stressful at others trying to follow what the Bible outlines for us to do. I think my biggest one is "Submitting" to my husband. I have always been very independant so it's hard when we have differing opinions about something to say my peace and let it go. Again, I'm not there yet but am much farther along than the day we got married! My DH and I have a couple we are friends with who are wonderful people. The wife is the quintessential Proverbs Wife. I don't know how she does it, but she is a beautiful person to be around. I know it's possible now to be the person the Bible speaks about but it's just rough getting there. If you haven't read this particular part of the Bible, here's a link to Woolandflax's site which inspires me every day.

Just another day in paradise

Ahhh, that got your attention, didn't it? Actually, even though I love the weather down here in Florida, the past 2 weeks have been hell. It's been getting rather cold at night but yet it's still blistering hot during the day. The sudden change in temps is wreaking havoc with my arthritis. I hardly ever have problems with it living down here but lately it's been a pain. This morning I could not even grip with my right hand. Now it's just a little sore but not too bad. When I lived up north it was pure torture so at least living down here I only have to deal with it a small portion of time.

I had all my packages for my secret pal, all my swaps and my DH's graduation invites all ready to go and left early for the post office. I went to the one nearest my home instead of the one on the way to work as the one by work is so packed all of the time. For some reason I had a brain fart and thought they opened at 8am. Nope, 8:30. Because of the road construction and 2 new traffic lights that have been put up on my commute, I have to leave earlier so I didn't get to the post office this morning. I guess I'll have to leave early tomorrow and fight the Saturday crowds.

Speaking of my DH's upcoming graduation I am at a loss at what to get him. He wanted a class ring, but I have yet to get a hold of the sole jewler who makes them for his college. I have written e-mails, called and nothing. I guess they didn't want the sale... My hubby has always been extremely difficult to buy for. He mentioned in passing about me giving him the "buy in amount" for an upcoming Texas Hold Em tourney in town. I dunno, that's kind of a lame gift IMO.

It's way past time for my little Tweety to see the groomer but we have been putting it off so that she's cleanly groomed for DH's party as there will be a houseload of people there. Poor thing is scratching and is so overgrown. She looks like she did when we got her from the pound! (Ok, not quite that bad, but she's getting there!) I plan on taking both her and Fozzy to the groomers the week I'm on vacation. Fozzy is starting to get over-grown but isn't too bad yet. We usually take Tweety once for every twice Fozzy goes as because of the Maltese in him, Fozzy grows much quicker than her.

I am so looking forward to my vacation! This will be my first paid vaca since our honeymoon almost 5 years ago! I am quite certain the week will fly by but I am hopeful that within a few months I will not have to work 6 days a week anymore.

My next crochet class is this Saturday and I am hoping I get a few more people signed up. I only have 1 so far. In the past, I have had at least 2 people sign up at the last minute but I think due to the holiday weekend that's why it's so sparce. Oh well, one is better than none!

I had to go into Wal-Mart for a few things last night and they had their remaining Mainstays yarn on clearance for $1 a skein. I only had an extra $10 on me so I bought 10 skeins and left 4 there. Hobby Lobby has a nice clearance section now and most of the yarn there is at least 1/2 off. I have already gotten several skeins but the other day I noticed a bunch of Bernat 100% merino wool for only $2.29 a skein! I think if there is any left tomorrow I'll pick a few of them up. It'd be great for making handbags and such. A recent issue of Crochet World Magazine had a great pattern for a felted handbag I've been wanting to try.

No cake this week

I hate to do this but I think I'll have to start asking for a depost if someone places an order for a cake or any other item. The woman who wanted the cake hasn't returned my e-mails or calls regarding the flavor cake she wanted. I finally tracked her down last night and she said "Oh, well, ummm, we're having an Easter party this weekend and I don't want the little kids to get their fingers in the cake so I'm not going to take it now. Maybe later." Ummm, ok... (Talk about a fake excuse!) If you don't want to order the cake, call me and let me know. I'm glad I got a hold of her as I was just about to start on the frosting. She called me, she placed the order with me. I didn't make her order a cake. Several people have told me I really should charge 1/2 for a deposit to start the thing but I tend to be a little naive in that I think peoople are going to be as honest as I think they are. Oh well, not a biggie. I could use a little break, but it irks me... So from this point forward unless it's for a close friend, I will not take any cake orders without 1/2 the cost down for a non-refundable deposit. Heck, I had to do that for my wedding cake. It's not much different here since that's one of the things I do...

I really should make a cake for our new neighbors though. They just got through moving in and I wanted to make them a cake welcoming them to the neighborhood. We'll see if I can make myself get up and do it!

America Again

Has anyone heard this song by Carmen? I think it was released in the late 80s or early 90s. It's a wonderful song and very true to our times. Below are the lyrics:

AMERICA AGAIN

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams,
first Chief Justice John Jay.
Names synonymous with the spirit of our country.
The Founding Fathers of the USA.

Over Two Hundred years ago, they shook of the chains of tyranny
from Great Britain by Divine call.
Citing 27 biblical violations, they wrote the Declaration of Independence,
with Liberty, justice for all.

But something happened since Jefferson called the Bible the cornerstone
for American liberty, then put it in our schools for a light.
Or since "Give me liberty or give me death" Patrick Henry said,
"Our country was founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

We eliminated God from the equation from American Life.
Thus eliminating the reason why this nation first began.
From beyond the grave I hear the voices of our founding fathers plead,
"You need God in America again"

Of the 55 men who formed the constitution,
52 were active members of their church.
Founding fathers like Noah Webster, who wrote the first dictionary,
could literally quote the Bible, Chapter and Verse.

James Madison said, "We've staked our future on our ability to follow
the 10 commandments with all our heart"
These men believed that you could not even call yourself an American
if you subvert the word of God.

In his farewell address, Washington said "You can't have national morality
apart from religious principle," and its true.
Because now we have nearly 150,000 kids carrying guns
through these war zones that we call public schools.

In the 40's and 50's student problems were chewing gum and talking.
In the 90's rape and murder are the trend.
The only way this nation can even hope to last this decade
is put God in America again.

Chorus:
The only hope for America is Jesus.
The only hope for our country is Him.
If we repent of our ways, stand firm and say,
We need God in America again

Abe Lincoln said, "The philosophy of the school room in one generation,
will be the philosophy of government in the next."
So when you eliminate the word of God from the classroom and politics,
you eliminate the nation that Word protects.

America is now number 1 in teen pregnancy and violent crime.
Number 1 in illiteracy, drug use and divorce.
Every day a new holocaust of 5,000 unborn die,
while pornography floods our streets like open sewers.

Americas dead and dying hand is on the threshold of the church.
While the spirit of Sodom and Gomorra vex us all.
When it gets to the point the when people would rather come out of the closet than clean it,
it is the sign that the judgment of God is going to fall.

If there has ever been a time to rise up Church, its now.
And as the blood bought saints of the living God proclaim,
that its time to sound the alarm from the church house to the White House
and say, "WE WANT GOD IN AMERICA AGAIN."

I believe its time America, to stand up and proclaim,
"that one nation under God is our demand."
And send this evil lifestyle back to Satan where it came from.
And let the Word of God revive our dying land!
For Jesus Christ is coming back again in all his glory.
And every eye shall see him on that day.
That’s why a new anointing of Gods power is coming on us to boldly
tell the world you must be saved!

Because astrology wont save you.
Your horoscope wont save you.
The bible says these things are all a farce.
If you're born again, you don't need to look to the stars for your answers,
cause you can look to the very one that made those stars.

History tells us, time and time again,
to live like there is no God makes you a fool.
If you want to see kids live right,
stop handing out condoms and start
handing out the word of God in schools.

Chorus:
The only hope for America is Jesus.
The only hope for our country is Him.
If we repent of our ways, stand firm
and say, We need God in America again.

Progress on the Pinwheel

I finished my first square last night for this CAL and boy oh boy do I wish I hadn't picked this project up! It's very complex and you really have to pay careful attention to every stitch you make. The square itself is all SC's made with the color changes as per a graph. Once you get that finished, you take the next color and do SC's all around the square twice. Then you do this horrible SC, CH 4, SC, CH 10 all the way around, then you weave all the CH 10 spaces together making sure to keep the CH 4 spaces behind your work. Then you add the next color, work 2 SC's in each CH 4 loop and then you do a SC, CH 10, SC, CH 15 in each stitch and repeat the weaving method. It's more than a bit maddening! I had my square finished and realized on the last row I wove the CH 15 spaces together instead of the CH 10 so I have to UN-WEAVE the whole thing and do it again. I know it'll be beautiful when finished but my goodness, why does it have to be so complicated?

I don't know how much I'll get finished with this over the next couple of days as I have to make that doll cake to be ready by Saturday. So tonite is reserved for making the icing and flowers then I'll bake the cake and assemble it tomorrow. She needs it for Saturday but will probably pick it up on Friday. Of course she hasn't told me yet what flavor cake she wants. If she doesn't call me back today I guess I'll just go with vanilla.

My frapper map!

I made my own Frapper Map the other day and would love it if everyone would take a moment to click on it for me!!! I'd love to see where everyone is from and see all of my friends at a glance! It's right under my weather pixie! THANKS everyone!!!

My hat swap hat!!!

Thank you so much Julie!!!! My hat swap partner went MIA and Julie was sweet enough to make mine! It's just what I was wanting and I just love it!!! Please forgive the pics. My DH didn't tell me he was ready so I look mad... Thanks again!!!

My new dishwasher!

Well, we finally got it! It is sooooo nice! I had no idea what a horrible job the old one was doing til we got this one. It was normal to have to go through all of the dishes and re-wash several glasses (which always had spots) and we could never put a pan or any kind of bakeware in there. I ran my first load last night and wow! The racks have much more room, the thing is super quiet (even though we didn't spring the extra $200 for the delux quiet model) and everything was super clean and spotless! I was just in awe! It is so nice to open that thing and see clean dishes!

I just had to share the joy of my new dishwasher! Ahhhh, the world is at peace again! (For the moment!)

New CAL = INSANITY!!!

JulieKay over at CVille is an evil woman! (Just kidding, you know I love you Julie!) Julie is the queen of all Crochet Alongs and just when I finish another project she comes up with another CAL for us to do. Of course I cannot say no so I jump in and put another project on my much overloaded basket!

Her new CAL is the "Quilt CAL". I have been needing to make my dad a new blanket. He's semi-handicapped and spends 90% of his time in his lift chair. He suffers from very poor circulation (as well as a nasty muscle disease) and his feet are usually the worst. So even in the dead of summer he's bundled up. I thought that I would make him a nice afghan and sew pockets where his feet can go to make them more cozy and another pocket where he could put a heating pad or something like that. So I looked at several Quilt Afghan patterns and decided upon the Pinwheel Afghan. As I tend to do with most projects, I don't bother to read the instructions until I am ready to sit down and crochet. It was then that I realized that this was a graph afghan! UGH! I hate graph ghans! I hate carrying over yarn and counting and tangled yarn and the headache of making little bobbins. Oh well, I really want to do this so I started my first square. About 12 rows into it, I didn't like how the "holding over certain colors" was looking so I started over and am going to try to simply make the white square and then cross stitch the pinwheel onto the square. We'll see if this works. I honestly was thinking I would make the pinwheel and stitch it onto the square. If only I could find a pinwheel that looks like this that I could stitch on, then I'd be a happy camper! Oh well, back to my stitching!
