My current WIP ~ Little Star Afghan

I am such a dope. I missed my niece Martika's 16th birthday a couple of weeks ago. With the move and all I totally forgot to call and wish her a happy birthday. And I call myself an Aunt? Well, she's quite a bit like me and loves hot pink so I thought I would make her a cool afghan.

I'm using my fave acrylic, Simply Soft in Soft Pink, Watermelon and Coconut. I am changing colors from lightest to darkest every 2 rows and I must say I am loving the way it's coming together! I completed this much yesterday so hopefully I'll be finished in no time.

I plan to make this quite larger than the size called for in the pattern. Instead of it being baby size, it'll be adult size.

P.S. You'll notice I've gotten quite a lot done in the way of crocheting lately. The stress of moving is really taking it's toll on me so I've been literally spending almost every free moment with hook in hand. It really does help to calm me down. I can't handle living with boxes everywhere and everything in disarray. I will feel so much better once we are in our new home and settled in...

Plus Sized Nightie

This pattern worked up very quickly and was fairly easy to follow. I did make a change and opted for the tie around the neck instead of the sewn on band as it will stretch. I also made mine shorter as it only comes to just below my waist. I used 8 oz of Caron Simply Soft in Black and my hubby loves it. (I did make it in his favorite color.)

If I were to make another one, I would opt to do it a bit differently. Instead of making each triangle, the waist band, the straps and then add on the dress portion, I would not do that as I hate sewing and there was just too much of it in this pattern. I would instead do the waist band as I went as well as the straps. I am a size 3X and a C cup size and this is very large on me. I would definately use either a smaller hook or make it a bit smaller.

However, for my first attempt I love it. If you'd like to make the pattern it can be found here. She does a great job of actually creating patterns for us plus sized ladies and for that, I give her a big THANK YOU! It's about time someone did!!!!

Flying Afghan Squares

I started out by making some squares for my square swap partners and was tired of the same old 12 inch squares on line so I went through my 2006 Crochet Pattern A Day Calendar and decided to do a couple of The Crochet Dude's from his Flying Afghan pattern.

These squares are not for the faint of heart. They are pretty advanced but are written well and work up just beautifully! I had the Red White and Blue yarns with me so did these 2 in those colors. Now I've decided to go ahead and make the whole afghan. I am going to do it all in the red white and blue and will give it to some lucky family member in the end. Just wanted to share...

For anyone in CAL Pals, we are putting together a CAL for this to start tentatively in August! Come join in the fun!!!
