Saturday's Ramblings

I had today off so Doug took me garage sailing. We had a few things we were looking for and hoped to find. A kitchen island, an outdoor patio set for the pool room, a couple of pictures to hang in the bedroom and maybe even a couple of lawn chairs for the pool room as well.

Why is it that when you don't have time and are heading to work you see hundreds upon hundreds of yard sale signs but when you actually go looking for them, there are hardly any to be found? We left home at 7am this morning, didn't come home til 10am and even stopped and had breakfast and we maybe hit 6-8 sales. It was amazing that there just weren't many.

We did manage to find a nice little kitchen cabinet for $10 which we can put up against the one bare wall in the kitchen. It had a countertop and storage room underneath so that'll help for now. We also found a nice shelf for my craft room which I intended to put "craft items" on but instead found a home for the tons of tiny Beanie Babies and such that I have. That was all we found though. Usually we'll see tons of pictures but none that were either in a good price range or decent to look at. Ah well... Maybe I'll leave for work early next Saturday and stop at a couple...

We did manage to get our DSL working today which was nice. Some of you who read my blog may remember that when we moved we switched from Sprint to Cox. Ever since we've had nothing but problems. The phone was constantly dropping calls, calls never going through and several times there was no service whatsoever. The DSL was worse. Half the time it wouldn't work and when it did it was pretty bad. After doing several speed tests, we found we weren't getting the speed we paid for. After several service calls we told them forget it. We called Sprint which is now Embarq and switched back. We got a really good deal (almost half what we used to pay) but nothing worked. The tech came out today and after spending over an hour finally got the phones and internet to work. If you're considering switching to Cox for your DSL or phone, I would recommend against it. If the power goes out you'll lose phone service. If there's an outage you'll lose phone service. I don't know about you, but if the power is out and an intruder breaks into my house, I'd like to know that I can still pick up the phone and dial 911.

I managed to unpack 4 more boxes today which I'm really happy about. When we packed we were in such a mad rush that I didn't even notice half of the stuff I packed not to mention Doug's nephews helped alot so I didn't see some of it. Needless to say, I've found some neat things I forgot I had or feared were lost. I still have about 6 or so craft room boxes to unpack yet but at least I've made a pretty good dent.

In the strange life that is mine I had a tooth fall out. Yup... I had a root canal years ago on a tooth that gave me several problems. It's the 2nd one over from my front teeth so you can see it when I smile. There wasn't much of the original tooth left so I have had to be careful what I eat (gooey stuff) on that side. Several times the tooth has fallen out and I've had to have it re-cemented in. The last time it came out it looked like the post was bent. My dentist told me that he could re-cement it but that it would be in at an angle and I needed to have a bridge done as it just wasn't going to stay any longer. I've been putting it off as we don't really have the extra money but that point is mute now as last night eating dinner it came out and the post broke. I tried to put it back in temporarily with some fixodent (which did help in the past) but without the post and hardly any natural tooth left it won't stay in. I guess I'll be calling an oral surgeon on Monday to see how much it'll cost to fix this.

In other news I saw my Nuerologist last week about going back on my headache medicine. My migraines have gotten so bad that I can hardly stand it and I also fear something is out of whack in my neck. I have been having tremendous pain in my left upper arm and neck, especially when I go to sleep at night. He recommended I sleep with a neck collar and I go in for an MRI Monday morning to see what's going on. I couldn't find my neck collar so I have been sleeping with a neck pillow I have. It has helped greatly and has actually helped reduce my headaches somewhat. I fell on a concrete floor about 4 years ago and popped my neck. I was out of work for almost a year and after much physical therapy I got back on my feet again. I think maybe this has to do with that injury. If you pray, I could really use some prayers with this.

I know that a lot of my physical problems come from being overweight. I have for several years wanted to have not the gastric bypass but instead a belly band put on. It does the same thing but is much safer and after researching it, sounds like the way to go for me. Problem is that insurance companies consider it "cosmetic surgery" and won't cover it. I am going to actively pursue this option with my Doctors and see if there is any way of getting it approved. I know I'll feel a lot better if I can lose 100 pounds.

Well, I've written a book today but I wanted to catch up on what's been going on.

Thank you to those of you who read my blog and care about my life and what happens to me. You know who you are and I am so glad to have you in my life, even if it's only through a computer screen.

One Skein ~ July

My One Skein for July came on July 31st and wow, what a skein of yarn! I have never seen anything like this before and cannot wait to make something with it. I also adore the card! If you can't make it out, it's a sheep with of course yarn on it and then it looks like it's being knitted with tiny knitting needles. This is one card I will be keeping in sight! I just love it! Thank you One Skein Pal! I cannot wait to see what surprise you have for me in August!

Oil Lamp

Well, I really couldn't get a great picture of it with the flash on the camera so you'll have to imagine what it looks like all lit up at night.

This was my mothers and hung in our house for a long time. After she died I was given it but had nowhere to hang it so I gave it to my brother. He had it hanging in his house and kept it there until I got married. When he came down for the wedding he packed it up and brought it down. It's been in a box since then. Doug cleaned it up last weekend, we put a new lightbulb and oil in it and good as new. It's so relaxing to watch and reminds me of my mom.

WIP Thursday ~ Fancy Fans Afghan

I'm working on a few Christmas presents this year and am using my scraps and 1/2 skeins. This one is from an old Afghan Pattern Booklet I have. I can't remember the name but I think this one's called Fancy Fans or something like that. It's pretty straightforward and looks nice. I'm trying to do a different color for each transition of fans. It takes me about 2 hours to do each transition so it is a bit time consuming but I think it'll be a great way to use up those scraps.

Blushing Becca ~ Finished Pics

I tested this for Kristie over at the 'Ville. If anyone could make her cutsie patterns look bad, it is me! Really, she has the coolest patterns but mine never turn out right. Ah well... I tried! Here she is in all her glory:

Bathroom Pics

I know I've been slow at getting the rest of the pics up here but it's been a little crazy. I still haven't gotten any taken of the master bedroom but will before this weekend. Here are the pics of our bathrooms. (I know, I know, you're dying of anticipation aren't you?) Ok, here's the guest bathroom:

And here's the master bathroom. It was really hard getting a good pic of it. It really is pretty. The tile is gorgeous and the shower is completely done in the same tile as the bathroom floor.

Update on Shocking News

A few months ago I posted about a former co-worker of mine who was indicted on Child Pornography charges. I worked with him at K-Country and was shocked when I heard this. Terry is a very quiet, kind and thoughtful person and a great co-worker, always chipping in to help you if you need it. I really thought it was a big mistake but now I have found out that you never really know someone. Click here for the original post about this story.

Now fast forward to the present time. It looks like he is going to be in Federal Prison for 5 years. Just shocking to say the least. If interested, here's the link to the story from the local paper.

I don't have much else to say today. I know I promised more pics but haven't had a chance to post them yet. Maybe tomorrow...

Movie Review Monday ~ Time Changer

Doug and I didn't go see a movie this weekend so I'm reviewing a movie that I love. This move is one of the most pleasant surprises we have encountered. It is a "Christian" movie but doesn't feature the horrible acting that usually surrounds Christian movies. It stars Gavin McLeod from The Love Boat and few other well knowns and is set in 1890. A professor from a Bible College goes ahead in time to the year 2002 and see's how taking God's word out of life has changed his world to the world we are in today. Some of the things you and I may not think twice about were unheard of back then. It really makes you stop and think about your life and where it is heading. If you are a Christian, I highly recommend this movie. If you are not, you probably will not like this movie nor understand it. I, however, give it 2 thumbs way up!
