Saturday's Ramblings

I had today off so Doug took me garage sailing. We had a few things we were looking for and hoped to find. A kitchen island, an outdoor patio set for the pool room, a couple of pictures to hang in the bedroom and maybe even a couple of lawn chairs for the pool room as well.

Why is it that when you don't have time and are heading to work you see hundreds upon hundreds of yard sale signs but when you actually go looking for them, there are hardly any to be found? We left home at 7am this morning, didn't come home til 10am and even stopped and had breakfast and we maybe hit 6-8 sales. It was amazing that there just weren't many.

We did manage to find a nice little kitchen cabinet for $10 which we can put up against the one bare wall in the kitchen. It had a countertop and storage room underneath so that'll help for now. We also found a nice shelf for my craft room which I intended to put "craft items" on but instead found a home for the tons of tiny Beanie Babies and such that I have. That was all we found though. Usually we'll see tons of pictures but none that were either in a good price range or decent to look at. Ah well... Maybe I'll leave for work early next Saturday and stop at a couple...

We did manage to get our DSL working today which was nice. Some of you who read my blog may remember that when we moved we switched from Sprint to Cox. Ever since we've had nothing but problems. The phone was constantly dropping calls, calls never going through and several times there was no service whatsoever. The DSL was worse. Half the time it wouldn't work and when it did it was pretty bad. After doing several speed tests, we found we weren't getting the speed we paid for. After several service calls we told them forget it. We called Sprint which is now Embarq and switched back. We got a really good deal (almost half what we used to pay) but nothing worked. The tech came out today and after spending over an hour finally got the phones and internet to work. If you're considering switching to Cox for your DSL or phone, I would recommend against it. If the power goes out you'll lose phone service. If there's an outage you'll lose phone service. I don't know about you, but if the power is out and an intruder breaks into my house, I'd like to know that I can still pick up the phone and dial 911.

I managed to unpack 4 more boxes today which I'm really happy about. When we packed we were in such a mad rush that I didn't even notice half of the stuff I packed not to mention Doug's nephews helped alot so I didn't see some of it. Needless to say, I've found some neat things I forgot I had or feared were lost. I still have about 6 or so craft room boxes to unpack yet but at least I've made a pretty good dent.

In the strange life that is mine I had a tooth fall out. Yup... I had a root canal years ago on a tooth that gave me several problems. It's the 2nd one over from my front teeth so you can see it when I smile. There wasn't much of the original tooth left so I have had to be careful what I eat (gooey stuff) on that side. Several times the tooth has fallen out and I've had to have it re-cemented in. The last time it came out it looked like the post was bent. My dentist told me that he could re-cement it but that it would be in at an angle and I needed to have a bridge done as it just wasn't going to stay any longer. I've been putting it off as we don't really have the extra money but that point is mute now as last night eating dinner it came out and the post broke. I tried to put it back in temporarily with some fixodent (which did help in the past) but without the post and hardly any natural tooth left it won't stay in. I guess I'll be calling an oral surgeon on Monday to see how much it'll cost to fix this.

In other news I saw my Nuerologist last week about going back on my headache medicine. My migraines have gotten so bad that I can hardly stand it and I also fear something is out of whack in my neck. I have been having tremendous pain in my left upper arm and neck, especially when I go to sleep at night. He recommended I sleep with a neck collar and I go in for an MRI Monday morning to see what's going on. I couldn't find my neck collar so I have been sleeping with a neck pillow I have. It has helped greatly and has actually helped reduce my headaches somewhat. I fell on a concrete floor about 4 years ago and popped my neck. I was out of work for almost a year and after much physical therapy I got back on my feet again. I think maybe this has to do with that injury. If you pray, I could really use some prayers with this.

I know that a lot of my physical problems come from being overweight. I have for several years wanted to have not the gastric bypass but instead a belly band put on. It does the same thing but is much safer and after researching it, sounds like the way to go for me. Problem is that insurance companies consider it "cosmetic surgery" and won't cover it. I am going to actively pursue this option with my Doctors and see if there is any way of getting it approved. I know I'll feel a lot better if I can lose 100 pounds.

Well, I've written a book today but I wanted to catch up on what's been going on.

Thank you to those of you who read my blog and care about my life and what happens to me. You know who you are and I am so glad to have you in my life, even if it's only through a computer screen.

I use to work for several insurance companies and if you are more than 100 pounds overweight and have other health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, back problems, etc the gastric bypass is medical and not cosmetic. If they deny it you can appeal it. It is pretty common for most authorizations for that to get denied to later be approved on an appeal.

I can definatly understand the migraine pain.

I do not however understand insurance companies that consider any type of weightloss surgery cosmetic with all the tons and tons of medical evidence out there saying how bad being overwieght can be for a person. It's mindnumbing how these places work....
Wishing you the best.
